Biokinetics is the profession concerned with health promotion, the maintenance of physical abilities and final phase rehabilitation, by means of scientifically-based physical activity program prescription.
Our Biokineticists specialise in preventative medicine, physical activity as medicine, total well being, orthopaedics, health management, maintenance and enhancement of physical abilities and performance, and functional movement.
The main difference is that biokinetics is a 2nd phase rehab, while a physio is a phase 1. This means that straight after injury/operation you should first visit the Physio, as they work to decrease the pain and swelling and restore full, pain free range of motion. After you have regained motion, you move on to the 2nd phase rehab with a biokineticist where we help strengthen and stretch the involved muscles before you return to your sport/everyday activities.
The primary function of Biokinetics is to improve physical functioning and health care through exercise as modality, but when physical functioning or health care is impaired then it is crucial to undergo a phase of rehabilitation to get a patient back to optimal condition.

Here at Jaco von Abo Biokinetics we make sure that all rehab and health programs are personalized and enjoyable for each individual.
What has started off as a Health Evaluation for a Vitality Day has become a Lifestyle. I have subscribed to a Gym with ideal intentions on a view occasions in my life in the past, only to bail out in the end.
After discussing my history with Jaco von Abo following a Vitality Evaluation during March 2012, Jaco convinced me to commit to an exercise program again. With an age on the wrong side of fifty and being a workaholic, I realised that I had to get active. Jaco managed my “desire” to experience strain in a Gym excellently. He never over-extended me and slowly but sure grew the intensity and maintained my commitment. It is now September 2018, six years and six months later, and I am still active in a Gym under Jaco’s hands.
Over and above a personalised exercise program, Jaco is a highly skilled biokineticist and clearly an expert in this discipline. The therapy forms part of the exercise program while treating your injuries and problems while your exercise program compliments the therapy. Jaco cares for his patients sincerely and foster long-term relationships.
When starting my therapy and exercise program in 2012, I suffered from chronic back pain following a motor accident. The regular therapy was one of the reasons for being in Jaco’s presence on a regular basis and he started combining the therapy with low intensity exercises in the Gym. There were days when walking was no fun and very painful. Following Jaco’s therapy combined with Gym exercises and suggested lifestyle changes I cannot remember when the last time was when walking went along with pain every step of the way.
Diagnosed with osteo and rheumatoid arthritis, I have been a patient of Jaco von Abo for 5 years. During this time Jaco has helped me through 3 joint replacements (knee, hip and shoulder) and a fractured lumbar vertebra.
His skill and biokinetic principles have made a huge difference to my mobility and independence. Jaco has provided me with exercise routines which have enabled me to rebuild muscle strength and reduce the amount of pain from stiff joints. His ability to diagnose problems and treat effectively have significantly improved my quality of life.
